I embroider sea creatures on layered thin silk, which makes it look like they're levitating along with their shadows. I named this technique "Levitating embroidery". It gives the motif a three dimensional effect, which is ideal to express the fantastical and blurry atmosphere of the water world.

Nowadays, science keeps developing and mystery keeps diminishing in our everyday lives. However, under the sea, we stil have a chance to meet many wonderous creatures that we've never imagined of. Their ecology and appearances are totally different from the creatures on land.

I would like to say that there still is fantasy under the sea. The mystery and diversity of the sea creatures gives me excitement and motivates me to embroider the sea world.

Since 2022, I have started to grow interest in a type of seaweed called the "Sea cradle", and am currently working on a series called "浮遊藻魚図”, underwater world using levitating embroidery.

It includes embroideries of sea creatures mimicking seaweeds, and sea creatures that move together with seaweeds all the time and are taken to other parts of the ocean. I find these creatures truly amazing and unbelievably beautiful, and that is what I want to express.

While reseaching the under the water world, I've found out that due to environmental changes, the population and habitats of the sea creatures have also changed dramatically over the years. I'm hoping that those who have never been interested in the under sea world will be able to see a glimps of this situation through my pieces of "浮遊藻魚図".
